Business Development & Sales Manager
About the Opportunity Join SPIRAC, a specialist engineering business designing and manufacturing screenings, grit and biosolids handling and outloading solutions for municipal wastewater and industrial applications. This is a true standalone NZ remit, no local office and no NZ-based team, so you’ll be trusted to run your territory with maturity, pace, and good judgement. You’ll be the face of SPIRAC in New Zealand, owning relationships, opportunity development, and customer coverage across both islands. While you’re autonomous day-to-day, you’re not on your own: you’ll collaborate closely with sales engineers and project teams in Australia (Perth/Sydney/Victoria) who support quoting, technical submissions, and delivery. Build on solid groundwork already in place; you’ll add value in conversations and develop opportunities through relationships and insight. Work with a broad customer base: major contractors, councils/wastewater authorities, and industrial clients, with most activity through tier 1 contractors. Proactively monitor tender portals to identify upcoming opportunities, then coordinate internally to progress submissions. This role will have a strong focus on wastewater treatment plant projects, working with clients across municipal infrastructure and water/wastewater environments. There will also be exposure to industrial applications, including large-scale processing and manufacturing environments such as dairy, food production and other industrial sites where wastewater, solids handling or process waste solutions are required. What You’ll Bring Experience in B2B solution sales / business development, ideally within wastewater, water infrastructure, engineering, or technical industrial equipment. Enough technical curiosity/credibility to confidently discuss customer requirements and translate needs into referrals for the quoting team (you won’t be doing detailed quoting yourself). A relationship-led style, comfortable engaging with contractors, councils, and plant/operations stakeholders. A highly self-driven, structured way of working (you can prioritise, plan travel, and keep momentum without needing a local team around you). Confidence operating autonomously without becoming siloed - you naturally loop people in early, share context, and keep stakeholders informed. A collaborative sales style: you enjoy working with technical experts to shape solutions, rather than trying to “do it all yourself.” Genuine comfort with regular travel nationally (often 3–4 days at a time, depending on project activity). What’s on Offer Autonomy and flexibility: run your territory like your own business, with strong backing from a wider Australian engineering/sales network. A genuinely stable sector with significant infrastructure investment underway over the next decade. Technical training in Australia to get you up to speed on SPIRAC’s solutions and how the team operates. A role that blends new business + existing account care, as SPIRAC’s NZ footprint continues to grow. A supportive, practical leadership style: success here is built on good judgement, customer focus, and consistent follow-through. Next Steps?
