A leading public sector organisation is seeking a seasoned
Senior Systems Accountant to join its Finance team. This is an opportunity to make a real impact in a purpose-led environment that champions wellbeing, safety, and excellence in public service.
As the
Senior Systems Accountant, you’ll be the go-to expert for developing and maintaining fit-for-purpose financial systems. Working at the heart of the organisation’s finance function, you’ll lead key system initiatives, enhance reporting capability, and ensure the integrity and integration of finance processes. This role combines strategic systems thinking with hands-on financial management.
You will also play a key role in delivering financial policies, streamlining processes, and driving improvements across the wider business. Though the position has no direct reports, you’ll be expected to lead by influence—collaborating with internal stakeholders, managing vendor relationships, and ensuring system users are trained and supported.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess, design, and implement financial system improvements that meet business needs
- Lead enhancements to financial reporting and analytics tools
- Maintain controls and data integrity across financial systems
- Oversee administration of financial systems including user profiles and permissions
- Manage relationships with external system providers and lead key system projects
- Support integration of other organisational tools with core finance systems
- Contribute to the development of policies and compliance with government standards
- Deliver finance-related training and promote continuous improvement
What You'll Bring
- 3+ years’ post-qualification accounting experience
- Demonstrated strength in financial systems, ideally with TechnologyOne
- A consultative approach with strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Broad financial knowledge with excellent problem-solving and analytical capabilities
- Experience in developing and delivering system training and documentation
- Familiarity with the machinery of government or public sector financial operations
- A tertiary qualification in accounting, finance, or a related field
